Do you look at the night sky and wonder: Why is the moon in that position right now? Which planet is that I’m seeing in the evening sky? Why are there so many shooting stars tonight? Once you get past appreciating New Mexico night skies for their beauty, you might start wondering about the science involved.
On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, the Roadrunner Region PCA will be taking a trip to the Planetarium at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science to discover answers to some of these questions.
At 12:00 PM, we will gather at the Museum to tour its many natural science exhibits and learn about its evolution. The Bradbury Stamm Construction Hall of Ancient Life will have just opened; so we will be among the first to see its fish, amphibians and other fossils which used to inhabit the shallow seas that once covered New Mexico.
At 2:00 PM, we will enter the Planetarium to see Enchanted Skies. Come to this program with any questions you may have about astronomy. During a live, interactive show, audience members are asked what they are interested in learning about the sky; and that influences what will be discussed. The presenters will do their best to not only answer your questions but illustrate with available visuals on the dome.
After the program, those who are interested will gather at the Saw Mill Market, just a few steps away, to share an early dinner. Please reference their web site to see some of the goodies available to eat. Our favorites are Dr. Field Goods, Frenchies Sandwiches, and Meso Grill; but there is something for everyone.
